Wine and beer form an integral part of the gastronomy and lifestyle in Spain and Portugal. However, there are also many great cocktails to be found throughout the region, with sophisticated cocktail bars becoming more and more popular. Whether you’re a casual sipper or an expert, there are some intriguing cocktail experiences that would add the perfect Fun Education for your next trip. Here are some of our favorites:
Madrid. Opened for the first time in 1886, the Gran Hotel Inglés in Madrid is one of the city’s oldest luxury boutique hotels. Here we can offer a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to make three different cocktails. Starting with the bases of bourbon, tequila or mezcal, and rum, you’ll be able to concoct a delicious creation with the help of the knowledgeable bartenders. Throughout the class, you’ll also learn the fundamentals of cocktail making as well as background knowledge on the premium ingredients.
Granada. The Seda Club is a 5-star hotel located in the heart of Granada just steps away from the Cathedral. This is our new favorite boutique property in the city! The upscale, contemporary interior is filled with rich woods, marble and bronze, with opulent textiles inspired by the 15th century silk trade in Granada. In the lobby, there’s even a secret doorway that leads you into a private library and sitting room
At the Seda Club cocktail bar, you can book a cocktail tasting to enjoy either in the bar or on the terrace. During this customized experience, you can try four different drinks, either chosen by you or suggested by the bartender. It’s the perfect way to wind down and try new things in an intimate, sophisticated setting.
Porto. Located right on the Douro River in Porto is Espaço Porto Cruz, a unique space dedicated to celebrating the local Port wine culture. It serves as an informative space that holds exhibitions, interactive activities, and new Port wine experiences meshed with other fields such as fashion and gastronomy. In their private 2nd floor tasting room, you can participate in a cocktail workshop where they teach you how to make a tasty Porto Tonic, and also how Port wine can be used to make other creative drinks in this fun, hands-on experience.
These activities are perfect if you’re looking for new, interactive ways to experience the vibrant culture of Spain and Portugal. Not only are the drinks delicious, but you’ll learn something new along the way thanks to Valesa’s Fun Education!
